About the program

Students in the Criminal Justice program will examine concepts and practical applications of justice, historical and contemporary explanations of responses to crime, and current research literature in criminal justice and interdisciplinary criminology. Students are challenged to think critically about how justice is best achieved, the key issues confronting the criminal justice system, the strengths and weaknesses of possible reforms, and the ethical dilemmas facing criminal justice practitioners.

The program requires the completion of core courses (including the three “sample courses” described below). In addition, students may take courses in Anthropology, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Conflict Resolution Studies.

Career Possibilities

Graduates of this program will find career opportunities in policing and law enforcement, intelligence analysis, and federal, provincial, or civic corrections. They may find work as police officers, probation officers, parole officers, border services workers, social service providers, or addictions counsellors. This program provides excellent background training for those seeking admission to law school. Students interested in graduate school in Criminal Justice or Socio-Legal Studies are encouraged to pursue an Honours degree in Criminal Justice.
